Besides being the official tourism and events bureau for the city of São Paulo, São Paulo Tourism is the administrator for the Anhembi Convention Center and the Interlagos Raceway. A publicly traded company, its majority shareholder is the City Government of São Paulo, with a 77% holding.
São Paulo Tourism's mission is "to position and promote the city of São Paulo as the business, knowledge and entertainment capital of Latin America, highlighting its avant-garde and cultural character, seeking to strengthen its image as a tourist destination, focusing on stimulating the various sectors of its economy and the quality of life of its citizens".
SP Turis (short form) operates to make São Paulo a destination in terms of entertainment and leisure, a business center and tourist experience. To this end, various projects are being carried out with the objective of encouraging tourists who visit São Paulo mainly on business to stay longer in the city.
Since January 2005, Caio Luiz de Carvalho is in charge of the presidency of São Paulo Tourism. He has a wide experience in the tourism field, having been the president of Embratur (national tourism agency), president of the executive council of the World Tourism Organization and Minister of Sports and Tourism. In São Paulo Tourism, he develops projects so that SP Turis will contribute to the city’s development, through the social inclusion power that tourism has.
